About Our ProgramsMetro Ministries has programs for children in each of the nations where it operates designed to provide encouragement and meet physical as well as spiritual needs.
Sunday SchoolMetro’s largest program by far is its Sunday School currently reaching over 23,000 children at 150 sites in the US, over 20,000 at 54 sites in the Philippines, and many others in various nations. Children are impacted with a message of hope that encourages them to stay in school and to stay away from gangs and other destructive or criminal behaviors so common in inner city environments. Each child receives a personal home visit each week.
Metro operates a child sponsorship program for inner city American children, as well as, for poor children in The Philippines and South Africa. The children are linked with sponsoring families from around the world who support and mentor a child through letters, gifts, trips to summer camp, personal visits, etc. Over 5,000 children are currently being sponsored through this program.
Each year Metro sends over 1,000 children to summer camp. It provides an opportunity for poor children to get out of the city, learn to swim, fish, and just have fun in a safe and natural environment.
Each year Metro encourages children to stay in school and provides book bags and school supplies to needy, inner city children. This is a tremendous blessing to children whose caretakers cannot afford these supplies.
Holidays are a special time of year. Lack of food during these times seems more painful than at other times. Each year Metro operates a program called “Boxes of Love” which provides needy families with a box of groceries containing everything needed for a nice Thanksgiving dinner, including the turkey or for a nice Christmas Dinner.
Each year Metro operates a program called “Operation Holiday Hope” which provides toys to needy inner city children, many of whom would not receive gifts of any kind for Christmas. In 2006, with the help of its supporters, Metro was able to give away 72,000 toys.
Each year Metro operates a program which provides Christmas stocking filled with goodies to inner city children. The stockings are actually made by hand by individuals and groups who send the stuffed stockings to Metro for distribution.
Operation MomRaising a child in an inner city environment is no easy task. Each year, Metro hosts a dinner in the honor of mothers of inner city children that celebrates them as they remain committed to their children.
Coming Soon,
With the space provided by our new facility, Metro will be able to operate several programs to benefit the community year round. It seeks to open a community food pantry where those in need can come year round to receive food. We also have plans to start an after school program. Stay tuned for more information on these upcoming programs
