Philippines Update
Wednesday, November 10, 2009
Continued prayers and support are needed for Metro Ministries staff and the families and children affected by the recent flooding in the Philippines. Here is a recent update from one of our staff members in Manila:
We will be getting an update from our partner churches last Friday, so as we compile info I'll keep you updated. Mostly, now though we are waiting for waters to still subside to see what will still be standing, partner churches looking for land away from river, waiting on gov't to see if they will offer any help for relocation, and doing SSS best we can.
Water in some areas still waist deep and people in evacuation centers and schools. Teams go to minister, do SS and pray with the people, old and young. 39 died in the one evacuation center, from the rat urine from water that seeps into the skin and poison attacks the kidneys and organs causing death.
Love in Him,
Wendy

Philippines Update
Tuesday, October 13, 2009
As many of you know, multiple typhoons have hit the Philippines and other parts of Asia. Many of our Sunday School locations and partner churches have been strongly affected by these storms.
We are receiving daily updates from our Philippines office, to keep us informed of the situations they are facing over there.
Many families have been affected in ways well beyond belief. Houses destroyed, furniture washed away, personal belongings and memories demolished by the flood waters. Our most recent update said there are still families waiting on the roofs of higher buildings, waiting to be rescued. There are also predictions that it will take up to 3 months to clear out all of the water.
Our Metro Ministries staff and volunteers have pulled together as many resources as possible to provide relief for these families. There is still a strong need for bedding, medicine, food, and basic hygenical supplies. Fresh water is also needed, as the flood waters carry disease and illnesses.

Health Update on Pastor Bill
October 1, 2009
Pastor Bill's recovery is continuing along, quite successfully!
Pastor Bill is currently in Africa, but before he left he met with his physical therapists, and he couldn't have received better news! His recovery is moving so rapidly, they said they have never seen anyone so determined and dedicated! They may have been surprised, but I'm sure you know this is simply who Pastor Bill is!
His goal is to be walking normally, without the aid of crutches and without a limp in his step by the end of the year. It looks like it will be accomplished!
Please continue praying every day for him!

Flooding in the Philippines
October 1, 2009
Many of you have seen on the news the recent flooding that is occuring in the Philippines. Some of our partner churches and Sidewalk Sunday school sites have been affected by these floods.
Many homes belonging to our Sunday school families have been washed away, leaving them homeless. With no hope of a shelter system to protect them, these families are left on the streets, with no home and for most, no belongings. They may be going days with no food or safe drinking water. Please lift up the Filipino people in prayer, as they need it so desperately right now. Pray for provision and protection, and especially for health.

Latest News in Pastor Bill
July 29, 2009
Pastor Bill is doing well. He is currently doing physical therapy two times a day, and will have to continue doing some sort of physical therapy until December. However, this therapy is paying off, as he is now walking confidently with the use of only one crutch.
Pastor Bill has done some traveling within the USA, but just recently his surgeon told him he won't be able to resume his regular traveling and speaking schedule until September.
As you may know, September is the beginning of a busy season, when the main fundraising for Operation Holiday Hope begins. Pastor Bill's schedule is packed with speaking dates and fundraising events in hopes to raise enough money to supply each child that attends Sunday School with a wrapped Christmas gift. Last year, we reached over 92,000 children with the Gospel and a Christmas gift, all around the world. This year, our goal is even greater, and we need your help. This event is one of the most impacting times for the lives of each child we reach and Pastor Bill will be traveling and speaking for this cause, despite his recovery process.
Please pray for Pastor Bill and his continued strength. September is coming quickly, and he will need as much prayer as possible.

One month later ... an update on Pastor Bill
July 14, 2009
It has been just over a month since Pastor Bill's hip injury occurred. He is enduring daily therapy sessions and has come very far in his recovery.
Now walking with the aid of only one crutch, the wheelchair has been returned and therapy continues towards his successful recovery. This past weekend marked his first speaking engagement since May. Traveling to Georgia proved tiring, but with the adrenaline of being on stage and the motivation of the people, Pastor Bill came home excited and ready for more. Continue to pray for strength and endurance as he continues to travel and recover throughout the summer.

New Update on Pastor Bill
June 30, 2009
Pastor Bill has been home for a week and a half now, and each day is better than the last.
Pastor Bill has begun out-patient therapy, and is becoming more mobile on his crutches. He very rarely relies on his wheelchair anymore, and is making great progress. He has a new therapist that's a bit more aggressive than the previous therapists, so it seems Pastor Bill has met his match! As tiresome physical therapy can be, he remains positive for a full recovery, and is thankful for the prayers and support coming in from around the world.

News Update on Pastor Bill
June 16, 2009
On Friday, June 5th, on his way to a staff meeting, Pastor Bill took a terrible fall that left him in tremendous pain. He was rushed to the hospital where the doctors found that he had broken his hip.
Immediately, they rushed him into a two-hour surgery which resulted in a titanium rod and screws used to repair his hip. As you know, Pastor Bill is our primary source for sharing everything God has done through Metro Ministries. The income that comes from his church speaking engagements is important to our continued outreach. The doctors have called for six weeks of rehabilitation, causing us to reschedule his upcoming church visits. An update on his status will be given within the next two weeks.
