HELPING CHILDREN

Responding to Tragedy

USA Relief

The tragedy that struck the United States of America on September 11, 2001, is impossible to erase from our minds and our hearts, especially as native New Yorkers. Because our headquarters are in Brooklyn, NY, Metro Ministries was in a unique position to respond on 9-11. We provided volunteer staff to assist the Salvation Army as it provided services to the rescue personnel at Ground Zero and at the landfill where debris was examined.

Overseas Relief

Time is passing rapidly since the devastating earthquake that hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The death toll continues to rise as medical attention and supplies are dwindling. But still, through this long recovery process that has only just begun, Haitians are choosing to move on and look to the future.

Metro Ministries is continuing efforts to help Haiti move on. We've sent a shipping container filled with necessities to maintain survival. Hygiene items have been sent to maintain cleanliness and prevent disease and sickness from spreading. Hammers, shovels and other building materials have been sent in order to set up permanent housing. We have also sent a 26 foot box truck with more supplies.

Our partner ministry in Carre-four has continued ministry and outreach, as more and more Haitians are open to the Gospel in this time of need. Before the earthquake their church was welcoming 1,500 people. Today over 4,000 people are coming to service each week. They have also set up daily prayer meeting in make-shift shelters at the tent camps, using strewn chairs and benches, and tarps for ceilings.

Please continue praying for and supporting these relief efforts. As time goes on, the media will forget about Haiti, and the support will become minimal. We do not want to see this happen. Instead, we believe that Haiti will fully recover from this devastation and continue to thrive in the future.
