Around the World at Camp .jpg)
At this year’s Camp X-Treme not only did every kid get out of the city- they also got to go around the world during camp! From Hungry to Malaysia, Kenya to Australia and many more! All activity stations were assigned a country theme, and every single camper got to make their very own passport to get it stamped as a memory keepsake, though I'm more then sure camp 2008 will never be forgotten!
Besides a day filled with endless activities and games like the bounce-house and slip’n’slide in Kenya, fishing in the Caribbean, campers were refreshed in Australia; a place where we paused and held chapel. There are many stories of kids encountering the reality of God and received a touch of healing, and hope in their hearts. Here is one from one of our staff members:
I had a little girl, Sarah, who is the single angriest child I have ever worked with. It’s a crazy home, but all the other kids are really happy to see Yogi Bear, really grateful for whatever we do. Sarah is the exception. When we got to camp, she was uncooperative and, as always, angry. I was questioning whether she would make it through camp or not.
One of the other counselors really connected with her, and kept her by her side - at meals, in chapel, at the lake. She showered Sarah with love and understanding. After chapel, we were talking about what the girls wanted God to take out of their hearts. Sarah said she wanted God to remove her hate and anger. On the way home in the van, it was pretty quiet because the kids were tired and I heard Sarah quietly singing a worship song from camp. She gave me a huge hug and smile when she got out of the van.
Later her grandmother called me and asked "What we did to her? She is happier than she's ever been in her life." I just told her “That's just what camp does”
